Ambient Managing Director, Robin Dilley has just returned from a private visit to Central Portugal and a break centred on Coimbra halfway between Porto and Lisbon. Travellers in this part of Portugal are able to sample a rich diversity of landscape from golden beaches in the west to mountains in the east. Coimbra, Portugal's third largest city is linked to both Porto and Lisbon by motorway and extremely efficient and very cost effective rail system means that the journey time from either is around 2 hours. Despite the strengthening of the Euro against the pound, he found that Portugal still represents excellent value for money to both the private and corporate traveller.
Over the past eighteen months, the Ambient Team has been taking a close look at what Portugal has to offer the event and group activity planner. This follows discussions with the staff at Visit Portugal and our feeling that the country has great potential as a MICE and Cultural Tourism destination.
Visits to the Algarve, Porto and the Duoro Valley, Coimbra and the Central Region, Lisbon and the island of Madeira have not only confirmed that belief but also have helped to create relationships with a DMC, hotels, restaurants, places of special interest and representatives on the ground able to deliver specific programmes on our behalf. An article elsewhere in this newsletter features a profile of 'Hidden Portugal' and will give readers a feel of what is on offer outside the 'safety zone' of the Algarve. Whether your Group is 4 or 400, Ambient believes that, with our partners, we can deliver a package that meets all your objectives and at an extremely competitive price.
