The Flemish speaking region of Flanders, in the north, is a flatland criss-crossed by canals. It is the home of such famous tourist cities as Antwerp, Brugges, known as 'the Venice of the north', and Ghent.
In Wollonia, to the south, French is the first language. Here the rolling hills of the Ardennes are dotted with castles and the cities of Liege, Namur and Tournais can be found.
The capital, Brussels, is one of Europe's great cosmopolitan cities. Little wonder it was chosen to be the home of both the European Union and NATO.
